Magee Womancare OB-Gyn Group Leaves UPMC for Highmark

When the five doctors announced last week they would switch to WPAHS, UPMC revoked their privileges, leaving patients confused.

Last week, a practice of five UPMC-affiliated obstetricians and gynecologists told UPMC and Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC that it would soon leave Magee's Womancare Associates division for the West Penn Allegheny Health System.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette is reporting that UPMC asked the doctors to clean out their desks the next day and revoked their hospital privileges. The physicians themselves are now prohibited from reaching out to former patients, but Highmark has set up an informational hotline at 866-844-4431 to help patients confused about what to do.

Edgewood's Elizabeth Felter, who is 35 weeks pregnant, was interviewed for the story. She, like many of the affected patients, are learning of the departures through a grapevine of friends, colleagues, fellow expectant mothers and toll-free hotlines.
