StormWorks Holds Online Auction for Painted Rain Barrels

The Wilkinsburg-based organization will hold the online auction for the artist-decorated barrels from Oct. 8-14.

Wilkinsburg-based StormWorks is holding an online auction of painted rain barrels from “Rain Barrels on Parade” online from Monday through Sunday, Oct. 8 to 13.

Over the summer, local artists painted and decorated rain barrels to raise awareness of Pittsburgh’s stormwater issues. The rain barrels were on parade from July through September at the USX Tower, Carnegie Science Center, Schenley Plaza, Biddle Building, Construction Junction, Children’s Museum, Coffee Tree Roasters and Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium.

Proceeds from the auction will go toward the artists and educational stormwater programming. The minimum bid is $400 and includes:

  • One 133-gallon artist-decorated rain barrel and all accessories (15-foot garden hose, overflow tubing, downspout diverter, brass ball valve spigot and all necessary additional downspout pieces)
  • StormWorks property consultation
  • Delivery and installation of the rain barrel within Allegheny County
  • Three-year replacement warranty on the barrel and all accessories

StormWorks, a division of Nine Mile Run Watershed Association located on South Trenton Avenue in Wilkinsburg, offers runoff mitigation products and services to Allegheny County neighborhoods. By providing simple solutions to area property owners to mitigate stormwater damage to our water supply, StormWorks gives homeowners and businesses the products and information they need to make positive, measurable changes in their communities.

While we welcome anyone to place a bid and participate in the auction, our delivery/installation services extend only throughout Allegheny County. If you win the auction, live outside of Allegheny County, and would like to purchase delivery/installation, call Luke at 412-371-8779 ext 120 or luke@swpgh.com for pricing.
