Hip-Hop Artist Palermo Stone to Release Album

Local hip-hop artist Palermo Stone, a Woodland Hills grad, is releasing an album next week.

Hip-hop recording artist Palermo Stone will release his third national album, R.A.R.E. [Deluxe], next week—and he's making his music as accessible to fans as possible.

Stone, a Woodland Hills High School grad whose album drops on March 24, will be selling R.A.R.E for $1. In addition to a full-length album, R.A.R.E., which stands for “Revitalizing Art; Reinventing Emotion,” will come with an electronic book that depicts original artwork from around the nation and tells the story of the album’s creation.

“These days, fans aren’t connected to the music and they need to be. I want to change the way they receive the music,” Stone commented about his decision to release his album in such a manner.  “I want to take their involvement to the next level by first making the music as affordable as I can (for one dollar), and also including this book that was written to tell them the inside story of how it was all created.”

The music aims to bring back the musicality of hip hop and eliminate any negative stereotypes that many associate with the genre.

“Hip hop is a language,” Stone said. “My whole goal is to teach the language, but do it in a way that no one has ever thought to do before.  ”

Last year, Woodland Hills High School art teacher Michelle Hutterer selected two seniors interested in pursuing careers in graphic arts to work on the album artwork for R.A.R.E. The book includes their illustrations, as well as several works from alumni and other national artists.

“I was so happy to see Palermo Stone return to the Woodland Hills community,” Hutterer said. “As a teacher, I am humbled and honored to see former students return not just as an example to the current student body to be true to their roots but also it is a positive thing to do.”
