Habitat for Humanity Hosting Recycled Fashion Show

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Pittsburgh and The Art Institute of Pittsburgh are hosting a recycled material fashion show entitled “Hard Hats and High Heels” at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall Thursday, June 7 at 7:30 p.m.

A VIP Cocktail Hour will be held at 6:30 p.m. All proceeds from the show will be donated to Habitat’s Veterans Housing Initiative program to help local veterans with housing repairs, accessibility modifications, and energy-saving weatherization. Tickets are now on sale  at www.PittsburghHabitat.Eventbrite.com. The event is sponsored by Macy’s.

The show will feature fashion design students from The Art Institute of Pittsburgh who have created a small collection of clothing using materials from the Habitat for Humanity ReStore retail outlet, located in Edgewood Towne Centre.

Habitat’s Community Outreach Coordinator Jeremy Martin said, “This is the perfect opportunity to see the reuse possibilities of our ReStore retail outlet and to support our new Veteran program to serve those who served our country for us.”

Habitat for Humanity partner family homeowners and volunteers will be featured in the show wearing clothes donated by local retailers. The designers will be judged by members of the local fashion community. Featured special guests include WTAE’s Wendy Bell and 96.1 Kiss FM’s Tall Cathy. Over 350 attendees are expected to enjoy this experience.

A silent auction, DJ and live entertainment all will be present. VIP ticket holders will receive a gift bag, pre-party entertainment, gourmet appetizers and desserts, two drink vouchers*, and reserved priority seating by the runway.

HFHGP is one of more than 2,300 affiliates of Habitat for Humanity International, a non-profit Christian housing ministry in over 100 countries, working to eliminate poverty housing worldwide. HFHGP works in partnership with God and people everywhere, from all walks of life, to develop communities with God's people in need by building and renovating houses so that there are decent houses in decent communities in which people can live and grow. Since 1986, Habitat has built or renovated over 70 homes in partnership with the community.

The Art Institute of Pittsburgh is part of The Art Institutes (www.artinstitutes.edu), a system of more than 50 schools throughout North America. The Art Institutes schools provide an important source of education for design, media arts, fashion and culinary arts professionals.
