Summer Pipeline Project to Disrupt Regent Square Streets

Local construction begins this summer as Peoples Natural Gas replaces all local pipelines.

Residents in Regent Square recently received a letter from Peoples Natural Gas detailing an extensive construction project this summer which will replace all pipelines along local streets.

Old cast iron pipelines, some as old as the World War I era, are being replaced in a major modernization project that extends 44 miles in the Pittsburgh region.

Pipelines in Regent Square will be replaced in late summer, while residents will be notified by letter one week before it begins, the letter states. As the work is being done, gas service in local homes could be affected. Peoples stated that disruption in service usually lasts for one working day, or just a few hours.

If the work takes place on any cobblestone or brick streets, Peoples stated that the company will restore that street to its previous appearance and condition. The company said in the letter that it is aware the streets add to local charm and they will be careful to preserve that neighborhood feature.
