Summer Food Service Program for Kids Offered in Woodland Hills Communities

The Allegheny County Department of Human Services will operate SummerFood, a free breakfast, lunch and recreation program for children and youths ages 18 and younger in economically disadvantaged communities beginning this week.

The Allegheny County Department of Human Services will operate SummerFood, a free breakfast, lunch and recreation program for children and youths ages 18 and younger in economically disadvantaged communities beginning this week.

Nutritious meals for children will be available on weekdays for all children at several locations within the Woodland Hills School District. Participating locations are as follows:

  • Hawkins Village, 500 Kenmawr Ave., Building 32, in Rankin—Monday through Friday through Aug. 16. Breakfast will be available from 9 to 10 a.m. and lunch from noon to 2 p.m.
  • Mapleview Terrace, 1014 Mapleview Drive in Braddock——Monday through Friday through Aug. 16. Breakfast will be available from 9 to 10 a.m. and lunch from noon to 2 p.m.
  • Rankin Christian Center, 230 Third St. in Rankin——Monday through Friday, June 24 through Aug. 2. Breakfast will be available from 9 to 10 a.m. and lunch from noon to 2 p.m.
  • Resurrection Baptist Church, 504 Fourth St. in Braddock—Monday through Friday through Aug. 16. Breakfast will be available from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. and lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
  • Prospect Terrace, 130 Prospect Drive in East Pittsburgh—Monday through Friday through Aug. 16. Breakfast will be available from 9 to 10 a.m. and lunch from noon to 2 p.m.
  • Linhart Park, George and James Street in Wilkins Township—Monday through Friday through Aug. 16. Lunch will be available from 11 to 1 p.m.
  • Westinghouse HR Center, 519 Penn Ave. in Turtle Creek—Monday through Friday, July 1 through Aug. 16. Breakfast will be available from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. and lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
  • Union Baptist Church of Swissvale, 211 Collingwood Ave. in Swissvale—Monday through Friday, June 17 through Aug. 2. Breakfast will be available from 8 to 9 a.m. and lunch from noon to 2 p.m.
  • Lions Park, Alpine Boulevard (off of Greensburg Pike) in Wilkins Township—Monday through Friday through Aug. 16. Lunch will be available from 11 to 1 p.m.
  • Eastmont Park, Frazier Drive in Wilkins—Monday through Friday through Aug. 16. Lunch will be available from 11 to 1 p.m.
Other sponsored sites
  • Christ Lutheran Church, 400 Barclay Ave. in Forest Hills—Serving hours are Monday to Friday. Breakfast is from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. and lunch is from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The church sponsors this program.
  • The Waverly Presbyterian Church, 590 S. Braddock Ave. near Regent Square—The program will be held June 24 through July 12, from noon to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday except Thursday, July 4. A free cold lunch will be served to children 18 years old and younger (Pre-K through 12th grade) from the Wilkinsburg, Park Place and Regent Square neighborhoods. All lunches will meet the new USDA MyPlate standards. 

Propel Charter School in Braddock Hills, Resurrection Power Incorporated in Braddock, Naomi's House in Swissvale and Pace School in Churchill also are participating as a closed SummerFood site for children participating in site activities.
