Scholarships Available to Edgewood Students

High school senior students with records of outstanding community service can now apply for the Mel Douglass Scholarships, which are awarded to residents each year.

The scholarships are awarded for community service achievements and will be presented in May at the annual Edgewood Foundation brunch for graduating seniors.

The primary scholarship is $4,000, which is paid in $1,000 installments for each year of college.

Honorable mention scholarships of $500 also are available.

Douglass graduated from Edgewood High School in 1970 and attended the University of Pittsburgh. He was widely known for volunteering with several local organizations in Edgewood.

To apply for a 2012 scholarship, send the following information to Dallas Frey at 193 W. Hutchinson Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15218 or to freydk@gmail.com:

  • Name, address and telephone number
  • High school and month you will graduate
  • Summary of community service efforts, why you should be considered for a scholarship
  • Two references and their phone numbers
  • The college or university you plan to attend
