Regent Square Running Group Takes Off, Plans Next Meeting & Workout

A local group is now forming for weekly runs through the neighborhood every Thursday night.

The Regent Square Running Group held its first meeting and beginner's run Thursday night, complete with mix CD's with favorite workout songs and free Gatorade.

Formed by William Reed Wingo of Regent Square, the local resident said he wanted to spread his own joy of running since the workout has changed his own life.

"For the inaugural run, we did a 2.13 mile beginners run," Wingo said. "I initially started running to get into shape and to date have lost 78 pounds, but along the way, it became fun."

Next Thursday, the group will be provided with several mapped run options all at approximately one hour runs of varying skill levels so that both novices and marathoners alike can get a workout.

"I think we'll have a two, three and four mile option for people to choose from," Wingo said. "This way, the group can still meet and end together but no one is left out and no one is bored."

Wingo said he hopes others will find a passion for running through the group, while at the same time, build community together.

"It's true what they say about it becoming addictive - your body craves the high you feel when the endorphines kick in and often if I find myself feeling cranky I realize it's because I haven't had a good run in a few days," Wingo said.
