Prepare for Closures Near Forest Hills

Keep this traffic alert in mind next week.

A $12.9 million project to replace the bridges that carry Route 30 (Ardmore Boulevard) over Electric Avenue (Route 2112) in North Braddock and Chalfant boroughs will begin on Monday.

Initial activities include water and sewer line improvements on the eastbound Route 30 off-ramp to Electric Avenue. To allow the work to occur, the off-ramp will be closed long-term from 7 a.m. on Monday continuously through late April. About 3,386 vehicles use the ramp on an average day.

  • From Route 30 (prior to off-ramp), make right onto Yost Boulevard
  • Follow Yost Boulevard and make left onto Brinton Road
  • Bear left onto Pallas Street
  • Turn right onto Brinton Avenue
  • Follow Brinton Avenue/Main Street south and make left onto Center Avenue
  • Turn right onto Grandview Avenue
  • Make left onto Bessemer Avenue
  • Turn left onto Linden Avenue
  • Follow Linden Avenue and make right onto Beech Avenue
  • Turn left onto Braddock Avenue
  • End detour at Electric Avenue                    

The project includes replacing the bridges over Electric Avenue, bituminous pavement, approach work, drainage, guide rail and concrete barrier, highway lighting, retaining wall and other improvements on Route 30. Route 30 will not be closed during the construction. At a later date, traffic will be reduced to a single lane crossed over onto one of the bridges while the other structure is replaced.     

The overall project will be completed in fall 2013. The prime contractor is the Trumbull Corporation of Pittsburgh.
