Patch All-Star Kids: Tamya Johnson-McCoy, James McCoy and Michael Riley

Tamya Johnson-McCoy, 11, James McCoy, 10, and Michael Riley, 9, are this week's Patch All-Star Kids!

Dickson Elementary’s Tamya Johnson-McCoy, James McCoy, and Michael Riley are Students of the Month at the Swissvale school and this week's Patch All-Star Kids!

Accomplishment: Johnson-McCoy, McCoy, and Riley won Student of the Month for January, in addition to achieving honor roll this year. Students from each grade are selected for Student of the Month based on grades, attendance, behavior, cooperation and willingness to help their peers. Basically: they are All-Star Kids! Johnson-McCoy won for 6th grade, McCoy for 5th grade, and Riley was selected from the 3rd grade class.

All-Star Kids' Key to Awesomeness: Johnson-McCoy was surprised that out of the entire 6th grade class, she was chosen as the Student of the Month. It certainly makes sense, considering she’s made high honors twice this year, meaning she holds an A grade average overall. She said she owes it to her focus, dedication and desire to achieve her goals. She also said she always tries to stay out of trouble. McCoy shares a similar sentiment. He achieved distinguished honors this year for being a straight A student. He attributes this achievement to his hard work and the fact that he only surrounds himself with people who won’t get him into trouble.

Riley, the youngest of the three, was very happy about his new title. His secret? He realizes what he needs to work on and tries hard to do better each day. It’s certainly paid off. Riley also made Distinguished Honors this year, meaning all A’s on his report card as well. Keep up the good work All-Stars!

(The other Students of the Month for January include: Zadie Babb, 1st grade, Kamiya Smith for Pre K, Maria McCoy for kindergarten, Alisha McCoy, 2nd grade, and Jordan Stephens, 4th grade)
