Monkey on the Loose After Fire at Exotic Animal Shelter

The monkey, named Bug, escaped after a fire destroyed the East Coast Exotic Animal Rescue in Adams County early Saturday.

A monkey who escaped an exotic animal rescue in Southern Pennsylvania is on the loose, according to reports.

The monkey, named Bug, escaped after a fire destroyed the East Coast Exotic Animal Rescue in Adams County early Saturday. Most of the animals survived the fire, except for two cats.

Bug is a capuchin monkey, according to information on the shelter’s Facebook page. He ran into the woods after the fire because he was scared of the commotion, the shelter explained on Facebook.

“We were able to save him from the fire but he escaped in fear of the fire and people and trucks,” the announcement on Facebook said.

“He is a new world monkey so he is no danger to anyone but with all exotics he has teeth so do not chase him or try and pick him up."

Shelter workers were out all weekend looking for him. “He is our top priority right now,” the shelter said on Facebook.

Anyone with information should call the shelter at (717) 642-5229
