March for Meals Drive Seeks Donations for Seniors

New volunteers needed for meal delivery.

Wilkinsburg Community Ministry is participating in March For Meals, a national campaign during the month of March.

Initiated by the Meals On Wheels Association of America, the campaign seeks to raise awareness of senior hunger and encourage action on the part of local communities.

Wilkinsburg Community Ministry takes part each year in this campaign.

This year, WCM is asking the community to assist by collecting items to give out to seniors, including: shelf-stable food (especially cereal, small cartons), flashlights, batteries, neck wallets (to keep ID and medical information in case of an emergency), small first aid kits and pill boxes.

"We are always in need of new volunteers to help deliver the meals each day," said Ann Greider, WCM executive director. "You can still help out even if you can’t drive."

As part of the campaign, Wednesday, March 20, is designated as Mayors For Meals Day.

"We are hoping that our mayor, John Thompson, will be delivering meals for us, along with a few other officials from our community," Greider said.
