Guest Readers Visit Heritage 4 Kids on Read Across America Day

U.S. Steel Corp. partnered with Heritage Community Initiatives to bring guest readers to the Braddock preschool.

Heritage Community Initiatives and United States Steel Corp. collaborated to bring guest readers to the Heritage 4 Kids Early Learning Center in Braddock to celebrate Read Across America Day.

On Friday, March 1, guest readers from U .S. Steel and the local community came to read about safety to 70 preschool children. Themes included stranger danger, bullying, and how to call 911.

Readers from the community included State Rep. Paul Costa, a long-time advocate of education for the 34th Legislative District; Braddock Mayor John Fetterman; Staff Sgt. Nick Davis, U.S. Army recruiter; Braddock police Officer Guy Collins; Edgewood fire Chief Dave Andrews and employees of the U.S. Steel Edgar Thomson Works, located in Braddock. Also reading was Patricia Waldinger, CEO, American Red Cross Western Pennsylvania Region, an organization whose mission is to help keep our families and communities safe.

U.S Steel donated copies of the books to each preschool child. Books included Emergency Call 911, Never Talk to Strangers, My Mom is a Firefighter, and Billy Bully. Eat’n Park Restaurants also provided Mini Smiley Cookies to each classroom.
