Busy Weekend For PennDOT

Here are five key projects which may impact your weekend travel plans.

Getting from here to there may be challenging this weekend as crews performance maintenance and repair work on some of the area's busiest highways.

I-579 Veterans Bridge
Ramp improvements

Traffic on the northbound I-579 Veterans Bridge approach to the Parkway North (I-279) will be reduced to a single lane from 8 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. on Monday. Crews will be replacing expansion dams. Single lane traffic will occur between the off-ramp to Route 28 and the Parkway North.

Parkway North/Fort Duquesne Bridge
Ramp improvements

Crews will be applying an overlay on the ramp, also known as the Portal Bridge, that connects the inbound Fort Duquesne Bridge to the outbound Fort Pitt Bridge and the Parkway East. The following closures will occur from 10 p.m. on Friday through approximately 5 a.m. on Monday:

      The ramp that connects the Fort Duquesne Bridge to the outbound Fort Pitt Bridge and the Parkway East- the Portal Bridge - will be closed. Inbound traffic from Route 65 and the Parkway North will still be able to access downtown using the off-ramps to Fort Duquesne Boulevard and the 10th Street Bypass.

      The ramp from the 10th Street Bypass and Fort Duquesne Boulevard to the outbound Fort Pitt Bridge will be closed. 

Parkway East (I-376)
Squirrel Hill Tunnel Rehabilitation

Traffic in the inbound Squirrel Hill Tunnel on the Parkway East will be restricted to a single lane from 10 p.m. Friday to 10 a.m. Saturday for tunnel rehabilitation work.

Parkway West
Sign inspections

Overhead sign inspections with lane closures will occur on the Parkway West in Robinson Township from 6 a.m. to noon Saturday and Sunday between the Route 22 and Montour Run interchanges. Outbound work will occur on Saturday followed by inbound work on Sunday.

Route 28
Retaining wall construction 

Traffic on inbound Route 28 will be reduced to a single lane from 8 p.m. Friday to approximately 6 p.m. Saturday between the former Millvale Industrial Park location and the East Ohio Street exit. Crews will be installing caissons for retaining wall construction.
