Architect Joins Edgewood Foundation Board

Beth Nelson became a member of the board this summer.

Beth Nelson is proud to call herself the newest member of the board.

An architect at Desmone & Associates in Lawrenceville, Nelson moved to about a year ago and has loved every minute of it.

“I bought a house and I have met more of my neighbors in the past year than I had in the previous seven years of living in Pittsburgh,” Nelson said.

Originally from New Jersey, Nelson moved to the Pittsburgh region for family reasons. When she moved to the neighborhood, she attended the Edgewood Foundation’s Newcomer’s Reception and immediately felt welcomed. She said she wanted to get more involved after making new friends there.

“I was just so impressed with my own experience, got my invitation right after I came and I love all of the great events, like the Wine and Chocolate party, and I just started to meet people,” Nelson said.

was the first person from the foundation that she met.

"Beth is a fantastic addition to the Edgewood Foundation Board," Lehrian said. "From the first time I met her, her enthusiasm for Edgewood was obvious. Having only been here a short time, she'd already volunteered for a few events, including last year's . We are thrilled to have her as part of the board."

As Nelson got to know her neighbors while she took her dog for walks, joining the board became a natural decision.

“It seems like a lot of people from the foundation are on my walking route so I get to talk to people and it just sounded like a great organization,” Nelson said.

Right now, she is looking forward to helping with the planning of Community Day this Saturday, along with a new Oktoberfest event this fall.

She also will be updating the Edgewood Foundation’s Facebook page.

“It helps me to get to know more of my neighbors and I have had such a positive experience myself that I’d like to continue to make sure that keeps going for however many years to come,” Nelson said. “It’s a great neighborhood and anything I can do to help promote that is wonderful."
