Another Chance to See a Supermoon: July 22

Look to the skies on Monday night to catch a glimpse.

By Lanning Taliaferro

A supermoon—again? Yes indeed, according to EarthSky.org.

Bottom line: The next supermoon will happen on July 22. A supermoon is a new or full moon that occurs with the moon at or near (within 90 percent of) its closest approach to Earth in a given orbit. That's a generous definition, which is why there are so many supermoons! The July 2013 full supermoon is the third one this year.

It won't be as spectacular as June's supermoon was said to be, but will the weather cooperate so we can see this one?

It's 50-50. The weather forecast for Monday night is 50-percent chance of rain and thunderstorms.
