Add Shelf Life to your Summer Fruits and Vegetables

Learn the secrets behind safely and effectively preserving fruits and vegetables at the Penn State Extension of Allegheny County's Food Preservation Workshop.

Now that the cold weather is rapidly approaching, we'll start to see certain fruits and vegetables less and less. If you'd like to keep them around your kitchen a bit longer, then we have the workshop for you!

This Thursday, the Penn State Extension of Allegheny County is offering a workshop about preserving fruits and vegetables in Regent Square at the at 7 p.m.

The workshop, "Preserving Your Garden Bounty, Fall Fruit: Tomatoes, Apples and Pears," teaches you how to safely can tomatoes, salsa, pears in liquor, and applesauce following the latest USDA guidelines, with instruction provided by Penn State Certified Master Food Preservers.

Registration for the workshop is $20, with scholarships available. To register, call Penn State Extension at 412-473-2540. Class size is limited to the first 20 participants.
