Customers have to scan their card before proceeding through the self checkout.
Giant Eagle stores are now requiring that shoppers using self-checkout lanes have a store loyalty card. The Post-Gazette reports the supermarket chain recently began rolling out technology in its stores requiring a Giant Eagle Advantage Card for anyone using self-checkout lanes. The technology prompts customers to scan their Advantage Card before proceeding to scan items for purchase. In the past, anyone could use the self-check out aisles regardless of loyalty card status. Dick Roberts, Giant Eagle spokesman, told the newspaper that requiring an Advantage Card ensures that customers are receiving weekly specials, GetGo fuelperks, cash register coupon offers and other savings. Two teens were taken to Children's Hospital on Friday after an incident near the East Busway.
The Port Authority Police is investigating after two teens fell or jumped from a railroad bridge near the Easy Busway in Wilkinsburg on Friday. According to WPXI, the teens suffered multiple leg and internal injuries when they fell from the bridge onto Wood Street. They said they were running away from a a light-skinned black man in his 20s who had a gun. According to WPXI, the teens described the man as been 6 feet tall and wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt.
