And although the gridironers are experiencing another successful season, it's the field hockey team that is really turning some heads. Coached by 15-year veteran Jim Haberfield and assisted by Dave Kotts, the Wolverines cruise into the playoffs with an undefeated record of 13-0 overall, and 10-0 in the conference.
The team is led by forwards Molly Means, Dante Costa, and Tim Bagwell. Excellent goaltending has been turned in all year by Jared Hanley. Adding to a solid core of players are defenders Morgan Murphy and Jordan Wadell. Autumn Porter and Kelsey Geyer have also added a needed spark to a very capable line up of seniors and underclassmen.
Haberfield has been extremely impressed by the commitment shown by all players, as many of them attended camps over the summer to improve their skills. Those efforts have certainly paid off. A key win for the team was a hard-fought victory over Fox Chapel 2-1 earlier in the season, a team they may see again in the playoffs.
As Coach Haberfield put it, "They have really stepped up their game." The team will begin its quest for a championship Tuesday night (10/25) at 7 p.m. at the Wolvarena in Turtle Creek.
We wish them all the best!
