Woodland Hills Grad Is UPMC's First Full-Time Social Media Manager

Stacey Simon shares advice about landing the job.

Stacey Simon credits her internship with landing the role as UPMC's first full-time social media manager.

The Woodland Hills High School and Point Park University graduate said in an interview on the university's website that one of her professor's encouraged her to apply for an internship with UPMC's media relations department.

One internship led to another internship, and soon Simon was hired full time in the media relations department. She found herself tweeting press releases from her personal Twitter account, which soon developed into something bigger—launching UPMC's corporate Facebook page and several supporting channels, according to the Point Park article.

She gives other students advice on how to land a job after college:

"Listen to your professors—they know what it’s like in the real world. Intern, volunteer, make connections and get as much practical experience as you can while you’re still in college," Simon said.

UPMC must have a lot of followers on its social media pages for it to be worth hiring someone to manage them.... What are the responsibilities of this job? Sit in meetings and tweet the news?

It appears that the story was offered to laud a WHHS grad, who was hired to become the very first full-time Social Media Manager at UPMC. No matter what the new job entails, she landed the job, no easy task in today's world. Perhaps it is just best to say "Congratulations Stacey" (and Go Woody High).
