School for the Deaf Students Celebrate Graduation

Congratulations to these local students!

On June 8, 30 students participated in the 2012 commencement ceremony, ending their years at WPSD and beginning a new chapter in their lives.  

The students, from communities throughout Pennsylvania, and their families enjoyed a pre-graduation dinner on the WPSD campus in and beautiful weather for the outdoor ceremonies.

Peter Bailey, associate executive director of The Learning Center for the Deaf delivered the commencement address. Followed by various awards to the graduates, a tribute to the seniors performed by the SignShine performance group and an address by valedictorian, Joanna Cernicky.

Mrs. Cathy Rhoten, WPSD Outreach Director, Mr. Donald Rhoten, WPSD Executive Director and Mr. Christopher McCrady, WPSD Board of Trustees President, awarded the Class of 2012 and presented the graduates to their friends and families.

Seventy-three percent of the graduating class will continue post-secondary education through a variety of university, college, technical and vocational programs. The remaining graduates will seek employment in their home communities.
