A free, comprehensive workshop on exterior house restoration will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 24, at the Landmarks Housing Resource Center, 744 Rebecca Ave., Wilkinsburg.
Topics for discussion will range from how to design and plan for renovation exterior house spaces like porches; landscape design; making building improvements in paint, brick pointing, and general façade maintenance; and restoration.
This is the third installation in a series of workshops on interior and exterior house restoration projects. The presenter is Stephen Shelton, who has worked in the construction industry since 1972 starting out as a masonry laborer. In his experience over the years, he has worked professionally as a masonry laborer, bricklayer, stonemason, tile setter, welder, electrician, and plumber.
A Pittsburgh native, Shelton grew up in the East End and has long been enamored by the architecture and craftsmanship of a gone-by era, which produced some of the most impressive brick and stone buildings that inspired him to join the building trades.
In 2001, he started Shelton Masonry Inc., masonry and general construction company, which employs 22 people and is one of the premier restoration companies in the city, working on both commercial and residential projects.
