Edgewood Police: Assist with Wilkinsburg Shooting, Robbery at CoGo's

The latest from Edgewood police.

 

The following reports were taken this week by the Edgewood police department:

Jan. 27

  • Edgewood police responded to an accident at Pennwood and Race Streets.
  • Police responded to a Uhaul truck that got stuck under the Race Street tunnel. The vehicle was towed.
  • Police responded to a call of a stray animal after a white pitbull was found wandering in a yard. The resident who lived in the yard said they would post signs and take the dog to a shelter if it was not claimed soon.
  • Police responded to another call that a second pitbull was found near a different home. The animal was taken to Animal Rescue League in East Liberty.
  • Police responded to a verbal domestic dispute at the Edgewood Towne Center Giant Eagle. The couple was advised.
  • Edgewood officers assisted Swissvale police at the corner of Edgewood and Columbia after someone ran during a traffic stop.
  • Police responded to a false alarm at Kmart.
  • Edgewood officers assisted Swissvale police after a fight broke out at Jr.’s bar.
  • Edgewood officer assisted Swissvale police with a verbal domestic dispute call.
  • Edgewood officers assisted Swissvale police after a report came in for a man laying in the alley on Scott Way. The man was intoxicated.
  • Edgewood officers assisted Swissvale police with a report of a robbery at CoGo’s on South Braddock Avenue. 

Jan. 28

  • Police assisted the Edgewood Volunteer Fire Department on a call regarding the smell of gas in a home. The gas company was contacted.
  • Police did a welfare check at the Edgewood Towne Center Giant Eagle after it was reported that a homeless woman was there. The 18 year old was transported to a women’s shelter in McKeesport.
  • Police responded to an accident at Walnut and Swissvale Avenue after a 16 year old was struck by a female driver. The driver had a .169 blood alcohol content according to a breath test.

Jan. 29

  • Police assisted on two medical calls.
  • Edgewood police responded to an alarm at the Edgewood Towne Center GameStop. The building was secured.
  • Police assisted on a medical call.
  • Edgewood officers assisted Wilkinsburg police with a burglary in progress on Doyle. Those involved were gone when police arrived.

Jan. 30

  • Police responded to a report that more than 2,400 Hydrocodone pills were taken from the Giant Eagle pharmacy by an employee over the last year and a half. Charges are pending.
  • Police responded to a disturbance at 139 Edgewood Avenue. A woman was intoxicated.

Jan. 31

  • Edgewood officers assisted Wilkinsburg police in a driving under the influence arrest. Brian Krah had a .156 percent blood alcohol content, according to a breath test.
  • Police assisted the Edgewood Volunteer Fire Department for a call regarding a carbon monoxide alarm that went off on Hutchinson.

Feb.1 

  • Police assisted on a medical call.
  • Edgewood officers assisted Wilkinsburg police in a shooting near Franklin and Ella. An occupied vehicle was shot multiple times. The driver was not injured. A man was seen in a wooded area with an AK-47 weapon and taken into custody. Rifle and empty casings recovered from scene.
  • Police responded responded to a disturbance at Eat 'N Park after a man was repeatedly screaming, “New York.”

Feb. 2

  • Police responded to a report of suspicious activity at Katsur Dental at Edgewood Towne Center.
  • Police responded to a report of soliciting outside of Foot Locker at Edgewood Towne Center. Jay Barbour was taken into custody for false reports and an active warrant from Braddock. Braddock police took him to Allegheny County Jail.
  • Police responded to a report of a hit and run at Applebee’s. The caller left before police arrived to take a report.
  • A theft was reported at Planet Fitness after a cell phone was taken from an unlocked locker.
