2012 Wings Over Swissvale Event Sept. 15
D's Six Pax & Dogz is set to defend last year's title.
“Wings Over Swissvale” is a "Chicken Wing Cook-Off” fundraising event being hosted by Swissvale Rotary.
The event will take place on Saturday, Sept. 15, from 2 to 6 p.m. at Les Getz Memorial Field, off Church Street. Tickets are $10 per adult and $5 per child.
"This is the second one and last year we had a really good turnout with seven restaurants participating," said Jo Ellen Welsh, organizer for the event.
Last year's cook-off winner, D's Six Pax & Dogz, will be back to defend its title. D's will be joined by Maldini's, T's Restaurant and Edgewood Towne Centre's Giant Eagle, a newcomer to the event.
"Rotary will be making money from the entrance fee and sale of adult beverages," Welsh said. "Everybody who buys a ticket gets to receive one sample from each vendor, child ticket gets a maximum of five and attendees will have a chance to vote for their favorite wings."
Vendors will not only be able to sell their wings, but also any other food item they wish. Swissvale Rotary will have a booth selling beverages and T-shirts. This will be a family event and there will be kid-friendly activities.
At the end of the event the vendor with the most attendee votes wins the “Wings Over Swissvale” trophy to display in their establishment as well as “clucking” rights for one year.

Church Street is one-way if you are on Monongahela. What you need to do is turn onto McClure. Once on McClure, take McClure to the intersection of McClure and Commercial. Turn left. Then turn left onto Church at the stop sign. Follow Church down the hill until you see the sign (on the right) that states Les Getz Memorial Field. You can turn right down the path to the field and park below if there are spots, or do not drive down the path and park on Church Street.
